Overview

CTA Tools 4023 Piston Ring Compressor - 4"

Brand: CTA Tools
Part Number: 4023

  • The CTA Tools 4023 Piston Ring Compressor is designed to safely compress piston rings during engine assembly, allowing pistons to be installed smoothly into the cylinder bore. This tool is ideal for use on cars and light trucks and helps ensure proper piston installation without damaging rings or cylinder walls.
  • Constructed from durable spring steel with a double band design, the compressor provides even pressure around the piston rings. The integrated ratchet mechanism with square drive allows quick and precise diameter adjustment for various piston sizes.
  • Features:
    • 4" (100 mm) depth accommodates a wide range of piston heights
    • Adjustable diameter range from 53 mm to 175 mm
    • Ratchet mechanism with square drive for easy tightening and adjustment
    • Spring steel construction with double band design for durability
    • Enlarged crimped edge prevents compressor from entering the cylinder
    • Suitable for automotive engine rebuild and maintenance applications
  • Specifications:
    • Manufacturer: CTA Tools
    • Part Number: 4023
    • Product Type: Piston Ring Compressor
    • Application: Cars and Light Trucks
    • Depth: 4 Inch (100 mm)
    • Adjustment Range: 53 – 175 mm
    • Construction: Spring Steel, Double Band

Instructions:

  1. Ensure cylinders are properly cleaned and prepared. Install piston rings using a ring installer such as CTA #2028.
  2. Lubricate the cylinder walls and piston generously with motor oil.
  3. Rotate ring gaps so they are positioned on opposite sides of the piston.
  4. Loosen the two screws on the ratchet mechanism. CAUTION: Do not allow the tool to spring open as the steel straps may break.
  5. Install the compressor over the piston with the ratchet square drive facing upward and tighten until rings are fully compressed, leaving the piston skirt exposed.
  6. Lower the connecting rod into the cylinder while ensuring rod studs straddle the crankshaft and piston orientation marks face the correct direction.
  7. Insert the piston skirt into the cylinder until the tool’s dimples stop at the block surface.
  8. Using a hammer handle or wooden block, gently tap the piston until it is flush with the block.
